Fagus Sylvatica

If allowed to grow naturally, this majestic plant will grow to make a tall, spreading tree, but it is also well suited (and much sought after) for hedging. Its wavy-edged green leaves emerge from bud covered with silky hairs, but soon turn a glossy dark green – and then, in autumn, it takes on yellowish-brown tones as it dies back. This foliage however is often retained throughout the winter, only dropping when the new growth emerges the following spring.
