The new foliage of this relatively compact (for a beech), columnar tree emerges bright yellow before maturing to fresh green. As the tree ages, it forms a gorgeous taper-like shape, that makes it ideal for planting each side of a large garden entrance. It also makes a magnificent stand-alone specimen in the lawn, and like all beeches, it can tolerate a wide range of soils – including chalk.
- Garden care: Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly.
- Pets: Harmful if eaten
