A profusion of white flowers, sometimes blush, emerge from pink buds in spring. Later in the year, this delightful crab apple is adorned with ball-shaped, butter-yellow fruits. The award-winning ‘Butterball’ (possibly not for the name…probably for horticultural excellence) is an ideal, compact garden tree. The wonderfully named butterballs are perfect for culinary use, just save some for the blackbirds!
Garden care: Plant ‘Butterball’ as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. Incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake and support firmly. If required, prune in winter to remove any dead, diseased or crossing branches.

Pollination information: This apple has a very long flowering period, so belongs to all the pollination groups and therefore is ideal for using as a pollinating partner to all other apples.
