This compact ornamental cherry ignites spring with clusters of deep rose pink flowers smothering its slender branching form. The beautiful bowl-shaped blooms emerge profusely along the stems before the narrow, glossy foliage unfurls. Though a relatively small shrub, ‘Fire Hill’ makes its presence felt with a neat, bushy habit allowing easy placement in borders, rock gardens and large containers.
Plant bare root trees as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). When siting your ornamental cherry, select a spot that is sheltered from strong winds to protect the delicate blossoms. Stake your new tree to anchor it while the roots establish. Water thoroughly at planting and keep the soil moist for the first year by watering regularly, especially during hot, dry spells. After planting, maintain a weed-free area around the base of the tree, and use a tree guard if rabbits or deer are an issue. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker, cutting back any dead, diseased, or crossing branches.
