With its vase-shaped form and breathtaking colour, ‘Tiltstone Hellfire’ lights up the landscape over a long season. Soft pink single blossoms burst forth in prolific clusters, cloaking this compact ornamental cherry tree in a spring floral display. The emerging bronze-flushed, almost metallic, foliage matures to become dark, glossy green leaves in summer before transforming into brilliant hues of red and purple in autumn.
When siting your ornamental cherry, select a spot that is sheltered from strong winds to protect the delicate blossoms. Stake your new tree to anchor it while the roots establish. Water thoroughly at planting and keep the soil moist for the first year by watering regularly, especially during hot, dry spells. After planting, maintain a weed-free area around the base of the tree, and use a tree guard if rabbits or deer are an issue. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker, cutting back any dead, diseased, or crossing branches.
